Who we are
Pinnovate was founded in 2017 by local Calgary-mom, Kiki Lally. Driven by the lack of artistic programming in our city, she set out to create a space that would bring together community and connection. Originally opening as a Pinterest inspired art studio it is a fully licensed event and education space. Through the journey of business our focus in the past 5 years has shifted to providing world class art programming for adults and children.
Like many businesses in 2020 Pinnovate had a difficult road being an event space and faced many obstacles including multiple shut downs and risk of total closure. Through this trying time a new business, DIY Delivery, was born. Creating arts and craft kits as well as hosting virtual events allowed us to continue to remain connected to our incredible community. Our sudden and successful business pivot garnered us national attention, including a featured article in Globe and Mail, Global news and many more. DIY Delivery now ships kits and subscription boxes across North America.
Team Pinnovate is composed of a number of local artists and art degree holders which helps foster the many art programs which run out of our space. We also host many creative makers and local artisans in our space to showcase the talent in our amazing city. Our teen art program has a variety of artists who provide mentorship and inspire our students to continue their artistic pursuits.
Our mission is to use our studio space to “Create a Difference” in a variety of ways. In recent years we have been proudly recognized by the City of Calgary as the Winner of the 2020 Access and Achievement Award, Calgary’s Child Magazine for Children’s Best Anclusive Art Programs (2019); and most recently by the Between Friends Organization as the winner of the outstanding community contribution award for 2021.
We look forward to welcoming you soon in our fun, joyful, creative, and bright yellow space!
Thanks for following our journey as we continue to “CREATE SOMETHING AMAZING”
CREATIVE DIRECTOR & BOSSLADY
Kiki is a born and raised Calgarian Mom who in 2016 decided to leave her day job and the plunge into entrepreneurship. She came up with the idea for Pinnovate after seeing the lack of diverse creative programming in our city. Her love for crafting, the arts and creating fun DIY projects snowballed into what is now known as Pinnovate DIY Studio!
5 years later she has been nominated for The RBC Entrepreneurship Award of the Year, featured in the AFCI Global Magazine and is a morning staple on both Global News Morning and CTV Morning Live.
In 2020 Kiki got creative once again and led her team through the pandemic by opening another business, DIY Delivery. Since then DIY Delivery kits have been shipped to over 3500 individuals throughout North America and supported over 200 donation kits to a number of local charities.
Her belief that “No art work is ever done” is a principal which guides our team in striving for excellence and continuing to build new and innovative art programming for children and adults.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMING LEAD
Chrissy joined Team Pinnovate in 2017 with a vast knowledge and experience of all things creative! In addition to holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, she was the owner of a successful photography business for over 10 years prior to joining our team.
Chrissy is the creative force behind our Littles’ Arts University (LAU) program and sessional art classes for children which have now expanded to over 10 weekly sessions . She is also the director of our LAU Teen program which provides mentorship and guidance with the help of local artists from our city.
This marketing wizard can be found anytime as the host of The Pinnovate YouTube channel which features all of the instructional videos required to create any of our at home crafting projects with DIY Delivery.
An avid creator, Chrissy is best known as a ray or bright sunshine in our studio. If you’ve booked an event, enrolled in an adult workshop or had any children in camps chances are you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Chrissy!
IN STUDIO MANAGER
Lena joined our team in June of 2020 with incredible artistic experience and love of children. While finishing up her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Lena was the head of our virtual children’s programming throughout the pandemic. During this time she grew into her Studio Manager role with a passion for operation systems and organization.
She has played an important hand in all facets of our business over the past 3 years including assisting with the creation of our DIY Delivery business and our business operating systems. In 2022 Lena over headed all of our off-site corporate events and played a strong role in our local charity initiatives.
Ms. Lena, as the children call her, is a favourite of our LAU students and brings a young vibrant excitement to everything she does. You can find this small and mighty lady creating some amazing marketing campaigns and overseeing all events in our studio daily.
